Army Rugby League 12-28 Ashton Bears

What a game and what a win!

Ashton Bears progress to the second round of the Challenge Cup with a 12-28 victory over the British Army in Aldershot.

Our amazing spectators made the long coach journey and were certainly on form.

The lads didn’t disappoint…they put on an amazing display.

Two tries each from Tyler Pilling and Matty Smith and Alex Ashby and Dec O’Donnell also made it onto the scoresheet.

Dec and Rob Sexton both kicked a conversion.

Bears went ahead after only four minutes,

Matty Smith got an early lead after making an early breakthrough to make it 0-4.

Tyler Pilling then added the first of his two for the match with a rapid run down the left wing.

Dec added the extras for a ten point lead.

Alex Ashby put his name on the scoresheet evading the defence on the right wing to make it 0-14 and Ty popped up again just before half time with his second.

Bears headed into the break with an 18 point lead.

After the restart, it wasn’t all plain sailing, as the home side threatened a comeback, with the Army scoring two tries of their own.

The Bears clawed back and finished the game strongly, adding 10 more points to their total in the final five minutes.

With the tries coming from Dec O’Donnell and Matty Smith - plus a conversion from Rob Sexton.

A convincing win for Ashton who have now secured a place in the next round, where they will face Dewsbury Rams.
