Bears Back in Action

Back in action after the summer break against a tough St Pats side

Great to see the lads back in action and as the game gets underway both teams go toe to toe with some bumper tackles and both teams pretty much cancelling each other out in the first 10 minutes, but as the half goes on its St Pats who turn the screw with the first try in the corner, the kick was missed, score 0-4

It’s not long before St Pats are at it again with a clever kick over the Bears’ line and was collected well for their second try, the kick was converted, score 0-10

The Bears at this stage are losing their grip on the game and somehow need to find a way back into it, but St Pats are relentless and score another 2 tries before half time making the score 0-18 at the break.

Not a good half for the Bears and we seem to be paying too much respect to our opponents and need to show much more aggression second half.

As the second half gets underway its St Pats who are at it again with a break down the middle to score, the kick was converted, score 0-24

The Bears heads are down at this stage and Pats make this even worse with another try, kick converted, score 0-30

We really need to start to roll our sleeves up and have a go at St Pats and roll them up they did, with 15 mins to go the Bears start to play like we know they can, defence is starting to win the battles and with some good pressure Daniel Hill breaks several tackles to score our first try, Tom Grundy with the kick, score 6-30

Things are starting to turn for the better for the Bears but again Pats hit us with another sucker punch to score, the kick was missed, score 6-34

The Bears are now playing some great rugby and the ball is slipped to Callum Cottingham and from the half way line flies down the wing to score a great try, the kick was missed , score 10-34

At this stage the Bears are the better team and with some relentless pressure force Pats into giving away a penalty, the Bears take the 10 yard advantage, they capitalised on this and with a flowing passing move all across the line Callum Cottingham brilliantly slips the ball out to Daniel Hill on the wing who flies down the wing to score, Joe Hobson with the kick making the final score 16-34.

Too much respect given to Pats for most of the game and if we showed what we did second half in the first half the game could have been ours, second half score was 16-16 and this stat pretty much sums the game up

Unlucky Bears onwards & upwards to next week

Special mention to Joe Rustage on his first game for the Bears who had a great game and is a sound addition to the squad, welcome to the Bears, Joe.
