Sunday morning saw our Ashton Bears U12s take on Golborne Parkside! While the scoreline ended 4–28 in favour of Golborne, the rugby on display was only half the story.
It was a local derby with a difference—a friendly atmosphere fueled by some amazing community spirit.
Here are the highlights:
🧦 Odd Socks for Inclusion: Both teams looked brilliant sporting their odd socks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, both teams taking part with the ethos that difference is embraced and everyone has a place in sport.
🙌 Welcome to the Bears Family: A huge shoutout to Oscar, Sam R, David, and Jacob, who all made their home game debuts today! We are incredibly proud of how you stepped up and performed on the home turf. The future is looking bright! 🐻✨
🏆 Awards & Accolades:
Fletcher M: A massive performance today, taking home both Player of the Match AND Opposition Player of the Match! 👏
Samuel N: Earned the Defensive Award again this week for some huge shifts in the line! 🛡️
💪 Women’s Open Age Support: We were lucky to have three of our Ashton Bears Women’s Open Age players on the coaching and support staff for both teams, adding some friendly rivalry.
🔥 On the Pitch: It was a tough, physical battle! Golborne showed some serious class with a few individual moments of brilliance that were simply unstoppable. Ashton never stopped grafting, showing that famous Bears grit until the very last whistle.
Huge thanks to Golborne Parkside for making the trip. Local rivalries are great, but days like today prove we’re all one big rugby family! 🏉🖤💛
